The process requires tedious manual work, which limits the size of the corpora that can be studied. Few works have attempted to automate this task, and none have been properly released and evaluated from a computer vision perspective. We propose a fully automatic approach that introduces several innovations compared to previous methods. We rely on fast and robust local descriptors matching that is set automatically. Second, the core of our proposal is a clustering-based approach that uses an intrinsic metric (that does not need the ground truth labels) to determine its critical hyper-parameters. We validate the approach on two corpora of Greek coins, propose an automatic implementation and evaluation of previous baselines, and show that our approach significantly outperforms them.

25 year ago five silver coins immediately attributed to Andriscos appearded on the market. As the self-proclaimed successor of the Antigonids, he claimed to have restored kingship to Macedonia in 149-148 BC. The identification at the BnF of two coins of the same type invites us to re-examine this coinage, the only vestige of the brief reign of the “pseudo-Philippus”.
Julius Caesar. Virility, Sexuality, Seduction?
Seducer? It’s not the first word that comes to mind when one thinks of Caesar. Yet even during his lifetime, the man had a solid reputation as a womanizer. His current image, however, seems to have outshined this part of his personality. However, this aspect of the figure of Caesar is also used in certain political or social debates, or as an emblematic figure of homosexuality or bisexuality.
an opportunity to extend the study to the gold coinage of Greek cities in the western Mediterranean. This article explores the results of the analyses of eastern gold and compares them with the results obtained for the Greek cities of the western Mediterranean, Carthage and Rome. It highlights a stock of Hellenistic gold with a very broad signature - maybe due to the remelting of the Persian treasures put into circulation following the Macedonian conquest - as well as the flow of metal during the reigns of Alexander and his successors. Western Greek golds are distinguished by different fingerprints confirmed by a separate circulation from that of the Eastern Mediterranean.
The first part of this presentation will be a general description of the collection, focusing on specific items as illustration of what we encountered. We will then ex-plain how the inventory was conducted, and finally, how the collection will be made accessible online by the BnF and in the Pondera database.
